In memory of Ekram

Fifty years ago fifty of us joined JCC at class Seven as the 7th Intake. Ekram was in Hunayan House and I was in Khaiber House, but we were in the same Form A. I remember him as very calm and composed with great sense of humour. He used to make us laugh a lot. His achievements in field and track events in athletics was simply remarkable. We are all very proud of the records he set in various competitions including Inter Cadet College Competitions.
After leaving JCC in 1976, as described by others, we went in different directions. I went abroad to study Medicine while Ekram joined Army. I came to know later that he developed side effects from treatment he received for an ailment and lost some of his hearing and consequently he had to leave the armed services.
Later he joined Civil Aviation Department as Deputy Director and posted as the Chief Security Officer at Dhaka International Airport. He had a long and successful career there and gained a lot of respect and reputation for his hard work, dedication and honesty. If I am not wrong, I think Ekram received a special award for his excellent work for providing top class security during a visit by American President. He was very much liked by the staff who worked with him and they were very sad when Ekram retired.

I was not in regular contact with Ekram directly, but used to follow him in social media. His witty remarks and comments on Facebook post used to make me chuckle.

Last time I saw him was on 23rd July 2016, when we got together at Kurmitola Golf Club celebrating 40th Anniversary of us leaving JCC. I can not believe that I will not get to meet him again. We have lost another of our intake mates and we all will miss him immensely, Please join me in prayer to almighty Allah that all his sins and shortcomings are forgiven, that he is protected from all his punishment of the grave and finally he is rewarded with the best place in Paradise. We wish his family have the strength to bear this irreparable loss. Inna lillahe wa inna ilahe rajeun.

Very sad news. May Almighty bless him with Jannah.
As a sportsman I knew him very well and had a close contact with him. I met him in Dhaka after he joined the army, just a few days before I left Bangladesh for East Germany.
